Park Jung Min answers question on the possibility of SS501 coming back together

SS501‘s Park Jung Min recently held his Japanese concert, ‘ROMEO CONTACT‘ on the 29th. After his concert, he stated to the press, “Recently, I got a text from Kyujong at 8 in the morning. I was up early that day and asked him what he was doing, and he answered that he was working. It was a very different situation.

When asked about the possibility of SS501 coming back together, he explained, “We haven’t broken up, so we have the choice to come together anytime. Before Kyujong enlisted in the army, we all met up once. But right now, Kyujong is in the army, and all the members are in different situations. I can’t say anything for sure.

SS501′s return may be especially difficult because the SS501 members are with different agencies. Kim Hyun Joong is signed with Key East Entertainment, Jung Min is with Yamaha A&R, Kim Hyung Joon is with S Plus Entertainment, and Heo Young Saeng along with Kim Kyu Jong are with B2M Entertainment. Additionally, Jung Min also expressed his future enlistment plans and said, “I still have domestic promotions left. I want to be active for a bit longer before I go.

Do you want to see SS501 come together?

SS501′s Kim Kyu Jong to enlist in the military this July

SS501‘s Kim Kyu Jong will be enlisting in the Korean military this July.

After receiving 4 weeks of basic military training at a recruit training center, he will be serving the country for 2 years.

His representatives remarked, “He could have postponed it a bit longer, but he thought it would be best to go now in order to plan out his later stages of life. After he becomes discharged, he plans to return to the entertainment industry with a lighter heart and mind.”

The singer gave his July enlistment a lot of thought.

Up until now, Kim Kyu Jong has been a member of SS501, promoted with a subgroup, and even released a solo album. Musically speaking, he fulfilled a lot of things that he wanted to accomplish.

He also tried his hand at acting through a musical, a web-toon drama, and TV Chosun‘s weekend drama ‘Saving Ahjooma Go Bong Shil‘.

But Kim Kyu Jong thought it would be important to establish his identity as an actor and a singer before his enlistment, and after discussing it with those around him, he has decided to enlist this July.

His reps continued, “Kyu Jong was born in 1987 so he still has some time before he needs to enlist. But he showed his strong will to serve, and we can look forward to a lot of his activities after his discharge, so we decided to respect his decision.”

Kim Kyu Jong promoted with SS501 under DSP Media, but moved to Lee Hyori‘s agency B2M, fully exploring his options in both music and acting.

Kim Hyung Jun wants to become the nation’s “it” young guy to date in 2012

Hello, my name is Kang Min,” rookie actor Kim Hyung Jun greeted upon meeting with StarNew for an interview. The singer turned actor made his small-screen debut with ‘Sunshine Girl‘ which aired its pilot episode on January 7th.

I feel like I’m still in character where ever I go,” he continued.

Kim Hyung Jun has been busy focusing on acting these days as top star Kang Min in new drama series, ‘Sunshine Girl’. According to the script, Kang Min is a woman-swooning jerk, a large contrast to his put-together appearance. He is arrogant and ruthless, but a character that the viewers keep wanting to see more of.

Kim Hyung Jun debuted in 2005 with his group, SS501 and is making his successful transformation as an actor with his new role.

I don’t know how many months I spent preparing for this drama,” he said. “I was so confident before the shoot began, but once we actually started, I began drawing blanks. It’s like I’m a rookie all over again. Hi, I’m rookie actor Kim Hyung Jun.”
His new character is definitely different from his own innocent and shy image fans have come to know and love. We asked if he sees even a small part of himself in his new character.

The real Kim Hyung Jun is as gentle as a pony,” he said. “The character has a personality that’s very different from my own, which makes it a little difficult. I added a little bit of rugged charm to my personality, and luckily I think it worked well.”

Perhaps it’s because it’s his first time acting, but he seemed dissatisfied with the way he performed on set. He could have cut himself some slack, as this is his first time, but it looked as though he set the bar pretty high for himself.

When I look back on my scene, there are so many areas where it feels so unnatural. I am thinking of how I can improve, especially in areas where I have to deliver emotion or use a lot of gestures. There’s going to be no big change overnight, but I will continue to talk with the staff members and my co-stars to improve in the future,” he said.

The actor feels he is still lacking in a lot of different ways, and insists that he will improve with time, rather than boasting that he seems pretty good for a rookie.

We asked what he wanted to accomplish as an actor. “When people see my dramas or the characters I take on, I want people to recognize that it’s classically Kim Hyung Jun.”

The actor seems to show a lot of passion for acting. “When this drama is over, I would like to try a drama that airs on public television,” he said. ”But for a large-scale drama like that, I need to improve my acting drastically. I don’t want people to say that I’m a horrible actor, and so I need to try harder now.”

He also expressed his gratitude towards his co-stars such as So Ee Hyun, Park Kwang Hyun, and more. It’s a well-known fact that if the actors on set do not have good relationships, it makes it hard to act on-screen with them as well. Their relationships in real life affect their on-screen chemistry. Kim Hyung Jun expressed that he was really worried about this, but that now they are all like one big family.

So Ee Hyun is like a real sister to me, while Park Kwang Hyun is like my older brother. They both take care of me really well. They always contact me first, offering to buy me a meal. I thank truly thankful for those two. They also give me advice on how to be more natural on camera. Even when the drama comes to an end, I would like to maintain our relationship,” he said.

The rookie actor creates a love connection with So Ee Hyun in the drama, and in the acting world, he is the current ‘it’ guy. Although he plays the role of a bad boy, viewers cannot get enough of him.

I know that some viewers are not fond of my character, but a lot of them think that my character is cute and want to continue to see me throughout the program. I think this is the appeal of a  younger man. And in 2012, I would like to become the nation’s official “it” young guy to date.”

Kim Hyun Joong Quietly Donates $100,000 to Charity

Stars are in the spotlight for every reason under the same, but rarely are they in it for good deeds. Although SS501's leader Kim Hyun Joong hoped to keep it under wraps, fans were able to discover a charitable side to the singer and actor through the Red Cross.

On December 26, an official from the Red Cross revealed that he had donated $50,000 to the Red Cross before the start of his Japanese tour in early November. He also donated an additional $50,000 USD to an organization that passes out briquettes to heat the homes of those in need. In total, Kim Hyun Joong donated $100,000 in secrecy before setting off on his two week Japanese tour.

"He didn't have any other reason, really. In the beginning of November, one of Kim Hyun Joong's managers stopped by and donated $50,000, asking that we spend it on a good deed. He also said that he didn't want the act to be spread or widely known," a Red Cross official said.

When asked about the donation, Key East officials replied, "It's a personal act so we as the company didn't know about it. He must've wanted to help out quietly."

Kim Hyun Joong has been on a roll since releasing his two mini-albums, and is currently awaiting the release of his Japanese single on January 25 with Universal Japan.

K-POP

K-POP

K-pop (Korean: 가요, Gayo) (an abbreviation of Korean pop or Korean popular music) is a musical genre consisting of electropop, hip hop, pop, rock, and R&B music originating in South Korea. In addition to music, K-pop has grown into a popular subculture among teenagers and young adults around the world, resulting in widespread interest in the fashion and style of Korean idol groups and singers.

Through the presence of Facebook fan pages, availability on iTunes, Twitter profiles, and music videos on YouTube, the ability of K-pop to reach a previously inaccessible audience via the Internet is driving a paradigm shift in the exposure and popularity of the genre. South Korean popular culture is today serving as a major driver of youth culture all across the Pacific Rim, with special reference to mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam. The genre is currently moving towards a position in the region, similar to that of American music in Europe during the 1980s and 1990s.

History

1990s: Conception and industrialization

The debut of Seo Tai-ji & Boys in 1992 was a turning point for popular music in South Korea, incorporating elements of rap rock and techno. Hip hop duos such as Deux were also popular in the early 1990s.

The founding of South Korea's largest talent agency, S.M. Entertainment, in 1995 by Korean entrepreneur Lee Soo Man led to the first K-pop girl groups and boy bands. By the late 1990s, YG Entertainment, DSP Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment had burst onto the scene and were producing talent as quickly as the public could consume it.

Groups such as, S.E.S., Fin.K.L, H.O.T, Sechs Kies, G.o.d. and Shinhwa had huge success in the 1990s. Also during this period was the emergence of hip hop and R&B music in Korea, leading to the success of artists including Drunken Tiger.

2000s: Globalization

Today, apprenticeship is the universal strategy for nurturing girl groups, boy bands, and solo artists in the K-pop industry. To guarantee the high probability of success of new talent, talent agencies fully subsidize and oversee the professional lives and careers of trainees, often spending in excess of $400,000 to train and launch a new artist. Through this practice of apprenticeship, which often lasts two years or more, trainees hone their voices, learn professional choreography, sculpt and shape their bodies through exercise, and study multiple languages all the while attending school.

Many idol groups and solo acts, including TVXQ, SHINee, MBLAQ, BoA, 2pm, Super Junior, SS501, BIGBANG, 2NE1 , U-Kiss, Kara, and Girls' Generation began targeting the Japanese market. The group members conduct interviews and sing in Japanese.

K-pop is steadily gaining influence in foreign markets outside of Asia, most notably in the United States, Canada, and Australia. In 2001,

Kim Bum Soo became the first Korean singer to place on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with his single, "Hello Goodbye Hello". In a push to further globalize the genre, K-pop artists are increasingly working with talent outside of Korea. In the United States, Korean artists are touring with groups such as the Jonas Brothers and collaborating with well-known producers including Kanye West, Teddy Riley, Diplo, Rodney Jerkins, Ludacris,  and will.i.am.

By 2011, K-Pop had become popular in Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, France, China, Canada and the United States (including Puerto Rico).
